City of Forest Day 2026!
SAVE THE DATE FOR THE FIFTH CITY OF FOREST DAY ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2026!
Trees New York, in conjunction with its coalition partners at Forest for All NYC, are once again hosting the 5th annual City of Forest Day. Since 2022, City of Forest Day has brought New Yorkers city-wide several different ways to connect with our unique urban forest through a series of activities designed to appeal to all ages.
This year’s event will take place all day on Saturday October 3rd. Events will be happening across all five boroughs and will include guided and self-guided tours, tree walks, birding, hiking, tree stewardship and planting, park restoration and cleanup, and family-friendly arts and crafts for children.
In the weeks leading up to Saturday, October 3rd, Trees New York will also host a series of “hype” events and community activations to build momentum, deepen public engagement, and celebrate our urban forest ahead of the main event.
One of the largest goals the organizers of City of Forest Day aim to achieve is to bring awareness to the importance of a thriving urban forest, and to further understand the role everyday New Yorkers play in their individual lives towards supporting the “lungs” of our great city. Trees not only beautify the city streetscape, but also support its residents with critical infrastructure!
“City of Forest Day is New York City’s largest celebration of trees! The event brings thousands of New Yorkers together to spend the day under the city’s tree canopy,” said Nelson Villarrubia, Executive Director of Trees New York. “Trees are vital to the health, resilience, and vitality of our city, and all of us at Trees New York are excited to connect with our incredible volunteers and Citizen Pruners. City of Forest Day is the perfect moment to shine a spotlight on the power of trees—and to invite all New Yorkers to roll up their sleeves, have fun, and explore the urban forest.”
If you would like to host your own event, Trees New York will be hosting a webinar in June. Stay tuned for more information.
We would like to thank Treebed who provided funding to Trees New York to support City of Forest Day 2026!
