Trees New York & The Bronx is Blooming!

Trees New York is excited to partner with The Bronx is Blooming to expand our tree stewardship in the Bronx.

To date, in partnership with Bronx is Blooming, Trees New York has taught over 2,500 New York City public school students, stewarded over 100 trees, and administered over 60 lessons in schools.

This summer, Trees New York is also offering its Young Urban Forester certification to The Bronx is Blooming summer PLACE participants to over 100 students interning in 10 parks across the Bronx. This one-day course connects students with the urban forest. Students learn about the many benefits trees provide to all of us, especially their role in reducing the urban heat island effect, and the many challenges trees face in an urban environment. Students gain a deeper understanding of the trees in the Bronx by practicing their tree identification skills, stewarding street trees, and learning about tree care and pruning, all while discovering how they can get involved in advocating for the importance of trees in NYC.

Trees New York and Bronx is Blooming will continue to engage K-12 students in environmental education and tree stewardship, and support green jobs training and forestry programming for local youth. Through our comprehensive curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of New York City’s Urban Forest. Our lessons range from indoor presentations to outdoor street tree stewarding. Foundational topics, such as tree biology, tree identification, and tree maintenance are explored, along with options for lessons on environmental challenges, including the urban heat island effect and invasive species.

Registration is now open for the Youth Environmental Literacy Program for the school year 2026-2027!
