In 2015 and 2016, Trees New York planted over 800 trees in the Bronx, on New York City Housing Authority Properties and on streets. The planting was funded via a grant from the New York State energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). One of the locations we planted was Gun Hill Houses, where we planted 38 trees. Using Itree tools, we analyzed the environmental benefits of the new trees, and the benefits will grow as the trees do.
i-Tree analysis of the 38 trees planted at Gun Hill Houses:
CO2 removed from the air each year: 556 lbs. (burning 1 gal. E10 Gas, the std. in NYS, produces 18.95 lbs. Co2) – the trees remove the equivalent Co2 of burning 29.34 gallons of E10 per year.
The trees currently have 1,888 lbs of Co2 stored in them.
Stormwater intercepted each year: 3,783 Gallons
The Deposition (removal) of Air pollutants per year is:
O3 (Ozone) 1.4 Lbs., NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) 0.6 Lbs., PM10 (Particulate matter 10 microns or less) 0.7 Lbs., SO2 (Sulphur dioxide) 0.2 Lbs.
