Greening Greenpoint

Over the last five years, NYCParks has planted over 500 street trees in Greenpoint.

The vast majority of environmental benefits come from large trees and the likelihood of a New York City street tree reaching maturity is greatly increased when they are cared for during the first five years after planting. Ongoing community participation in tree care is a key component to a healthy urban forest.

In 2018, Trees New York will conduct a minimum of 20 tree stewardship workshops that include environmental education lessons and hands-on stewardship activities – providing volunteers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to care for their neighborhood trees. Trees New York will prioritize the stewardship of the street trees adjacent to the Newtown Creek, an EPA Super Fund site.

Trees New York will offer 20 $85.00 scholarships for the Citizen Pruner Tree Care Course to people who live or work in Greenpoint zip code 11211, reducing the course fee from $100.00 to only $15.00!

This project is in partnership with the New York Tree Trust.
